BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — A Bakersfield man accused in separate cases involving burglary charges and the sexual assault of an elderly woman at the same home was sentenced to time served and must register as a lifetime sex offender, according to the Kern County Superior Court.

Fermin Maciel was credited 1,909 days for time served as part of his sentence, said a court official.

Maciel, 31 at the time, was arrested July 31, 2023, after Bakersfield police officers responded to a home at about 3:52 a.m. in the 100 block of 8th Street for a reported sexual assault. Maciel entered the woman’s home without her permission, police said.

When officers tried to talk to Maciel, he ran into the home. He was arrested shortly afterward.

Police determined Maciel knew the elderly woman’s son. The sexual assault took place on June 29, 2023, at the home on 8th Street, police said.
