A 41-year-old man is suspected of driving while on drugs during a fatal collision Wednesday afternoon in the Fresno County foothills.
According to California Highway Patrol, the man was driving on Highway 180 east of Fresno near Dunlap when his car crossed the double yellow line and into oncoming traffic. This caused a head-on collision that sent a second vehicle off the road and 30 feet down the mountainside.
The driver of the second car was killed in the crash.
She was identified Thursday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Misty Lynn, 34, of Squaw Valley.
Two children, both under the age of 5 and properly secured in child seats, were taken to a hospital as precaution.
The man sustained major injuries and was also taken to a hospital for treatment, the CHP said.
The man was arrested, based on CHP’s preliminary investigation. He’s suspected of driving under the influence, CHP, which it said is “believed to involve drugs.”
Highway 180 was temporarily closed while emergency personnel responded, and investigators processed the scene. The crash remains under investigation, according to CHP.
