The 49ers continue adding to their defense in NFL free agency, this time throwing a veteran cornerback into the mix.

San Francisco is expected to sign Nate Hobbs, 26, to a one-year contract, sources confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jennifer Lee Chan and Matt Maiocco on Thursday night. NFL insider Jordan Schultz was first to report the news.

A former fifth-round pick of the Raiders in the 2021 NFL Draft, Hobbs played for Las Vegas for four seasons and recorded 281 tackles — 200 solo, 14 for loss — with three sacks, three forced fumbles, 19 pass deflections and three interceptions across 51 games (38 starts). He also missed 14 games during his Raiders tenure due to multiple injuries.

He signed a four-year, $48 million contract with the Packers before the 2025 NFL season and made 11 appearances (five starts) for Green Bay, recording two pass deflections and 27 combined tackles. He sustained three separate knee injuries last season — a torn meniscus in training camp, a torn MCL in his other knee after Week 9 and another torn MCL in Week 17.

The Packers released Hobbs on Wednesday, and now he will seek a fresh — and hopefully healthy — start with San Francisco.
