South Bay leaders have spent the last several months preparing the possibility of federal immigration enforcement agents coming here and that time is now. Whether federal agents carry out operations in the Bay Area, or not, their message remains the same: know your rights and resources.

The City of San Jose and County of Santa Clara have passed or will vote on legislation to limit ice overreach in the community to back up their words of support with action. These leaders say the South Bay was built by immigrants and they’ll continue to stand in support of them.

“Even though we may seem to be safe from federal action today, we are always preparing for the worst case scenario,” San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan said. “We have plans in place to protect our residents.”

“Understand that we stand with you, today, tomorrow, forevermore because that is the way, those are the values of Santa Clara County,” Santa Clara Co. Supervisor Betty Duong said.
