Both Disneyland officials and the APD stated that the incident occurred due to a contractor’s building materials. A spokesperson for the park said the materials created a reaction backstage, and that cast members were treated by paramedics on the scene and subsequently released.
Nearby areas were cleared of guests, though theme park personnel said the areas would reopen momentarily.
The APD added that there were “no concerns with any park guests at this time.”
At the time of writing, the Star Tours attraction was open, but the adjacent Tomorrowland ride, Space Mountain, was listed as “Temporarily closed” on the park’s official app.
Neither Star Tours nor Space Mountain is undergoing refurbishment this week, according to Disneyland’s website. The only spots with planned refurbishments this week are the Jungle Cruise in the Adventureland area on the opposite side of the park and the Oga’s Cantina bar in the Star Wars-themed Galaxy’s Edge area, which is also far from Tomorrowland.
This is not the first medical emergency to arise at Disneyland in recent months. In October, a visitor in her 60s died shortly after riding the Haunted Mansion attraction in the New Orleans Square area of the park. Disneyland security performed CPR on the woman until paramedics arrived. She was later transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
