This photograph in the March 3, 1983, issue of the Park Labrea News showed the newly expanded and re-installed galleries at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. A major expansion completed that year added 30,000 square feet to the Ahmanson Gallery, as well as a gallery bridge linking the third floor of the Ahmanson Gallery and Frances and Armand Hammer Wing. Those buildings were cleared in 2020 to make for LACMA’s current transformation, which is nearly complete. The new David Geffen Galleries, which will display the museum’s permanent collection in entirely new ways, is scheduled to open on April 19. Two weeks of priority member access to the galleries runs through May 3. For information, visit lacma.org.
