SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a vehicle on a Kearny Mesa street Thursday morning, San Diego police said.

According to police, the collision happened just before 6 a.m. in the 9500 block of Balboa Avenue.

In a statement, police said: “A 67-year-old male was riding his 2016 Triumph motorcycle westbound on 9500 Balboa Avenue approaching the intersection with Viewridge Ave.

A 42-year-old male was driving his 2025 Chevrolet truck eastbound on Balboa Avenue and was proceeding through the intersection making a left turn onto Northbound Viewridge Ave.

The Chevrolet entered the intersection on the green traffic control signal. The motorcycle entered the intersection against a red traffic control signal and collided with the front of the Chevrolet.”

Police confirmed the motorcyclist was transported to the hospital but died after arrival.

Due to the incident, the 9400-9700 block of Balboa Avenue was shut down between Interstate 15 and Ruffin Road until about 8:15 a.m.

SDPD’s Traffic Division is investigating the crash; DUI is not considered to be a factor in the incident.
