The Long Beach Poly softball team is gearing up for an early-season showdown with Millikan on Tuesday.
With first place in the Moore League on the line, both teams are headed into the 4 p.m. matchup at Millikan High with momentum.
The Rams are on a two-game win streak. Poly is on a four-game win streak.
The Rams are the defending league champions and have won five consecutive league titles.
Poly is 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the Moore League. The Jackrabbits beat Lakewood 10-0 in a league opener on the road Thursday night. They also have nonleague victories against Legacy, Valley Christian and Banning.
Poly senior second baseman Persjah Lam Sam went 3 for 4 for two RBIs, two doubles and a leadoff home run.
Senior catcher Janelle Morris, who signed with Southern University, and freshman outfielder Harper Daniel hit home runs.
Jackrabbits junior pitcher Tegan Breaux picked up the win. Breaux threw a complete game, with no runs and two walks in six innings. She gave up six hits and struck out seven.
Poly led 6-0 after the first two innings.
Jackrabbits senior third baseman Emoni Lam Sam, who signed with Cal, is batting a team-high .667 with 10 hits and six RBIs through four games.
Daniel has a team-high two home runs.

Millikan is 10-4 overall, including a 3-1 nonleague victory against Kennedy on Thursday. The Rams led 3-0 going into the seventh inning.
Rams senior Addy Everett had the game’s lone RBI. Kayla Cisneros (Wagner College signee), Liana Lopez and Mia Meza each scored a run.
Pitchers Riley McAndrew (George Washington commit), Jade Torres and Mia Meza combined to throw a one-hitter. Millikan’s pitchers struck out 13.
McAndrew, who has a team-best 0.64 ERA, struck out five batters in three innings. Torres struck out seven in three innings.
The game Tuesday against Poly will be Millikan’s Moore League opener.
Moore League results
Long Beach Wilson beat Jordan 23-0 in a Moore League game Thursday. The Bruins improved to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in league. They led 12-0 after the first two innings.
Jordan dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in league.
Compton won its league opener against Cabrillo 12-8 on Thursday. The Tarbabes improved to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the Moore League after earning the program’s first league victory since March 26, 2024.
Cabrillo dropped to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in league.
