Los Angeles was hit with record heat Friday ahead of a major heat wave forecast for the region next week.

Downtown L.A. reached a record 92 degrees today, breaking an existing record of 90 degrees set in 2015. Los Angeles International Airport reached 88 degrees, breaking a previous record of 86 degrees set in 1994. Temperatures at UCLA peaked at 89 degrees, breaking a record of 87 degrees set in 2015.

‘Extremely rare’ heat wave to hit Southern California next week

More temperature records could be broken next week. Daily highs could reach 100 degrees between March 17 and 19 as a rare, long-lasting heat wave is expected to hit the area.
