A man who is accused of trying to rob a man of his Rolex at gunpoint in West Hollywood was charged with felony crimes, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office told NBC Los Angeles exclusively Friday.
Samuel Crawford, 21, faced three charges, including a second-degree robbery and carrying a loaded firearm on a person.
Crawford jumped out of a car on Sweetzer Avenue Wednesday afternoon and tried to steal the luxury watch from a retired professional athlete, investigators said earlier this week.
The athlete was able to disarm the attempted robber and pin him down on the ground until deputies responded to the scene. The retired pro fighter’s girlfriend told NBCLA that she grabbed Crawford’s gun and threw it over an apartment fence.
“I was able to disarm and take the gun from him,” the retired fighter, who declined to be identified, said. “I had him pinned down. He was trying to get up. No way, we’re not letting him go.”
The attempted robber was arrested, according to the LA County Sheriff’s Department, but the driver of the black sedan managed to get away.
Crawford posted $50,000 bail and was released from custody, according to law enforcement sources.
Crawford was scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 14.
