Sacramento kicks off early St. Patrick’s Day celebration with Shamrock’n Weekend; expect road closures
THE CITY OF SACRAMENTO IS CELEBRATING SAINT PATRICK’S DAY A LITTLE BIT EARLY. THE TRIUMPH CANCER FOUNDATION’S ANNUAL SHAMROCK WEEKEND KICKED OFF TODAY, AND DAY TWO IS SET FOR TOMORROW, SO TAKE A LOOK. THIS IS HOW THINGS LOOK THIS MORNING AS THOUSANDS OF RUNNERS TOOK OVER WEST SACRAMENTO TODAY. FIVE K AND TEN K RACES WERE HELD ALONG WITH A HALF MILE LEPRECHAUN DASH FOR THE KIDS. TOMORROW IS THE HALF MARATHON AND WE HAD A CHANCE TO CHECK IN WITH RUNNERS BEFORE ALL OF THIS GOT UNDERWAY. WE’VE BEEN PRODUCING SHAMROCK FOR THE LAST 21 YEARS. WE HAVE BEEN PARTNERING WITH THE CANCER FOUNDATION SINCE 2015. WE’VE BEEN ABLE TO RAISE OVER $162,000 SINCE 2015. THIS YEAR, WE’VE RAISED ABOUT $16,000, AND OUR DONATION LINK IS STILL OPEN. THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE CLOSURES, ACCORDING TO ORGANIZERS, THE TOWER BRIDGE WILL BE CLOSED FROM 7 A.M. TO 1 P.M. IN BOTH DIRECTIONS DURING THE SAME TIME. Sacramento is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day early with the Triumph Cancer Foundation’s annual Shamrock’n Weekend, which began Saturday and will continue Sunday with a half marathon. Thousands of runners took over West Sacramento this morning for 5K and 10K races, along with a half-mile Leprechaun Dash for kids.Organizers told KCRA 3 they have been producing Shamrock’n for the last 21 years,.The half marathon will cause several major road closures Sunday. The Tower Bridge will be closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in both directions. Capitol Mall will be closed at 7th Street to the Tower Bridge during the same time.
