THE GAME: Shortstop Zach Neto injured his left hand on a head-first slide at home in the sixth inning of the Angels’ 6-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday at Tempe Diablo Stadium. Neto, who was tagged out when trying to score from first on a double down the left-field line, was set to undergo more tests after the game.
“At the beginning I was super concerned, then when I went back in the dugout and looking at him, it was a little more optimistic,” Manager Kurt Suzuki said. “We’ll see when I go back and get an update from the guys about how he’s doing.”
Neto hurt his shoulder twice on head-first slides, including once that required surgery after the 2024 season. He said last year he would try to slide feet-first.
PITCHING REPORT: Right-hander Walbert Ureña pitched three scoreless innings, striking out four. He ended the first and third innings with strikeouts, both times stranding runners in scoring position. Ureña’s fastball averaged 98 mph and topped at 100 mph. Ureña got the start because the Angels chose to have José Soriano pitch in a minor-league game instead of facing the Mariners. … Left-hander Brent Suter worked two innings and allowed one run. … Right-hander Sam Bachman pitched a scoreless inning, striking out two. Bachman has not allowed a run in 6⅔ innings this spring, with 12 strikeouts.

Trout is hitting .207 (6 for 29) with a .568 OPS this spring. … Nolan Schanuel tripled off the fence in right center. It was Schanuel’s second extra-base hit of the spring. He’s hitting .259 (7 for 27) with a .745 OPS this spring. … Josh Lowe struck out twice and walked. It was his first big-league game since suffering an oblique injury more than two weeks ago. … Logan O’Hoppe had a single and a double down the left-field line. O’Hoppe is hitting .294 (10 for 34) with a 1.032 OPS this spring. … Oswald Peraza singled and doubled off the fence in left-center, barely missing a homer. Peraza is hitting .351 (13 for 37) with a 1.076 OPS this spring. He has eight extra-base hits.
DEFENSE REPORT: Peraza, the second baseman, made a leaping catch of a line drive to end the fourth inning. Peraza also came up short trying to stop a sharp one-hopper that got into the outfield, allowing the Mariners’ first run of the game. … O’Hoppe threw out a runner trying to steal second. … Center fielder Bryce Teodosio made a nice sliding catch in the gap in left-center.
