In Sacramento’s Oak Park near the The Colonial Theatre and The Colony live music venue stands a small brown building with a large sign in red saying Anna’s Vegan Cafe.
The vegan Asian restaurant at 3500 Stockton Blvd. is a cozy restaurant with a focus on plant-based eating.
The restaurant, though run by only two people, does not skimp on flavor or friendly and attentive service.
A Sacramento Bee reader recommended that I check out Anna’s Vegan Cafe as part of The Bee’s On a Budget series, which helps readers find fun and affordable ways to connect to the community.

What is Anna’s Vegan Cafe in Oak Park like?
I visited Anna’s Vegan Cafe on a warm weekday afternoon. The inside of the restaurant was small with cream-colored walls and plenty of flowers. I was immediately greeted by the owner Vu Tran who stood behind a tall counter with a gold-plated Buddha and yellow flowers.
The dining area was small with just over six tables.
According to Tran, the restaurant has been in operation for 17 years and has gone through different name changes and ownership. Tran and his wife took on the restaurant and changed its name to Anna’s Vegan Cafe.
The restaurant provides an expansive and diverse all-vegan menu. It features Chinese classics like orange vegan chicken and Mongolian “wonder” — their vegan take on Mongolian beef. The restaurant also serves half a dozen soups and three clay pot dishes, including a vegan fish pot.
The menu also offers a number of gluten-free options.
Sacramento Bee reporter Veronica Fernandez-Alvarado visited Anna’s Vegan Cafe to see if the restaurant was budget friendly. Veronica Fernandez-Alvarado valvarado@sacbee.com What I got for $25 at the restaurant
I spent a total of $24.95 before tip and tax at Anna’s Vegan Cafe. For that price, I got enough food to last me several meals.
For $2.50, for a refreshing and creamy glass of sweet Thai Tea. The drink was wonderful and full of flavor.
I ordered an appetizer of drumsticks for $5.50. The drumsticks had a wonderful meaty texture that I had long missed from my days as a meat eater.
The BBQ vermicelli, for $14.95, came with two vegan egg rolls, cooked rice noodles, a cabbage and carrot side salad and barbecue soy beef grilled with onions and topped with crushed peanuts.
It was hard to pick a favorite, but the BBQ vermicelli was beyond amazing.
For under $25, The Bee’s Veronica Fernandez-Alvarado got Thai Tea, vegan drumsticks and barbecue “beef” with rice noodles. Veronica Fernandez-Alvarado valvarado@sacbee.com Is Anna’s Vegan Cafe affordable?
