(FOX40.COM) — One person was killed and another was injured in an early morning crash in South Sacramento on Saturday, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to CHP, around 2:44 a.m., officers responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on State Route 99 near Pringle Avenue.

CHP said it believes the car was headed south on SR-99 when it left the road, hit a guardrail and overturned.

The passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver sustained major injuries and was taken to a hospital.

CHP said it believes alcohol was a factor in the collision.
