On the heels of two 10-day contracts, the Sacramento Kings are keeping Killian Hayes around for a longer look.

Hayes, a 24-year-old guard who was the seventh overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, has reached an agreement with the Kings on a two-year deal, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The six-year veteran holds averages of 3.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game (0.7 turnovers) on 27/20/83 shooting splits over 10 appearances with Sacramento.

Hayes’ playing time has fluctuated during his 10-day contracts, averaging 15.3 minutes per game in what has mostly been a reserve guard role for a Kings team on its way to a regular-season finish that will result in a high lottery pick in this summer’s NBA Draft.

While his shooting percentages are a red flag in themselves, Hayes’ playmaking ability (33 assists against seven turnovers) aligns with his previous track record as a strong distributor and passer.

During Hayes’ first five NBA seasons, the 6’4 guard averaged 5.2 assists (2.0 turnovers), including 8.4 assists per game (3.0 turnovers) in the NBA G League.

Details on the two-year deal are still unclear at this time, but it wouldn’t be that surprising if Hayes’ deal was non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed for the 2026-27 season.

Sacramento (17-51) is entering the final weeks of the regular season, and as some veteran players (Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, Keegan Murray, De’Andre Hunter) remain sidelined with no return in sight, other veteran players could soon see their minutes reduced the rest of the way.

This opens the door for Hayes and second-year guard Devin Carter to run the show at point guard over the final 14 games as the Sacramento Kings look towards an important offseason that could bring plenty of changes to a roster that is in need of a new look.
