In the East Bay, police are monitoring the possibility of “beach takeover” parties that are being promoted on social media for Sunday and Tuesday.
Alameda police say they’re monitoring two unpermitted “beach takeover” parties, involving young people.
They said one party promotes an assassin-style game using guns and water balloons, adding it may seem like fun, but similar games in the past have led to unintended and dangerous consequences.
“It sounds like good fun and everything, but some of the complaints we get are if you’re involved, in the game then that’s OK, but when it starts spilling over to people and public who are not part of the game and it causes them to lose the enjoyment of the park, then that is going to be the problem,” East Bay Regional Park district police department sergeant Chris Feliciano said.
He added there will be extra officers to promote public safety.
“If you like to come and follow the rules, we welcome you, anything starts going sideways or you start disturbing the peace of other people in the area, then that’s when we will have to step in and make sure that we don’t have those minors that are drinking, we don’t have people smoking on the beach.”
Alameda police urges parents and guardians to talk with their kids and discourage participating in unpermitted gatherings.
