OAKLAND — Two more suspects have been charged with murder for allegedly playing roles in the 2021 shooting death of a 24-year-old man, court records show.

Kadeem Burks, 29, and Ronald Jenkins Jr., 25, have both been charged with murder in the July 18, 2021 killing of Bert Brigham III, which police say was motivated by violence between warring gangs. Burks and Jenkins now join co-defendant Hanif McLeod, 25, who was arrested and charged last January, court records show.

Only Jenkins and McLeod are have been arrested at this point, according to jail records. Authorities allege that there were four gunmen involved in Brigham’s killing, including Burks, Jenkins, McLeod, and another suspect — a man in his 20s — who hasn’t been charged, court records show.

Brigham was shot and killed around 10 p.m. on the 1900 block of Foothill Boulevard in Oakland. He died four days later, authorities said. It was one of several other ambush-style shootings on or near the Foothill Boulevard corridor, all linked to the same feud. These include an October 2021 shooting where Burks was shot in the buttocks on the 2300 block of Foothill Boulevard but survived, authorities said.

Almost exactly a year after Brigham’s death, on July 27, 2022, both Jenkins and Burks were shot while sitting in a vehicle on the 2400 block of 12th Avenue in Oakland. Burks was listed in critical condition at the hospital and nearly died, while Jenkins suffered a single gunshot wound, authorities said in court filings.

In past weeks, police have made headway in that shooting too; Shaka Fagans, 26, was arrested and charged with attempted murder of both men but posted $150,000 bail and was released from jail, records show. After the double shooting, police allege that Fagans had a conversation with Bruks, who apologized and explained that Brigham wasn’t the intended target.
