SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Eric Segura threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings and Cooper Vance homered and collected three hits to send Oregon State to a 10-3 win over San Diego Sunday to sweep the series at Fowler Park and Cunningham Field.
Bryce Hubbard, AJ Singer and Jacob Krieg also homered for the Beavers, who totaled 10 in the three-game series. Vance’s was his first of the season, Hubbard his fourth and Singer collected his third, all of which came during the sweep. Krieg’s was his fourth of the season and second of the series.
The win pushed Oregon State to its ninth consecutive victory.
Segura was sharp in his fifth start of the season. The righty, who improved to 2-1 on the year, held San Diego (7-12) overall to four hits and three runs while striking out five. He struck out five and lowered his season earned run average to 1.59.
Vance, meanwhile, was a triple shy of the cycle. He drove in Oregon State’s (14-4) first runs of the game on a double in the third.
He upped the Beavers’ lead to 4-0 with a solo shot to left in the fourth, then followed that with a single in the sixth.
Hubbard hit a solo opposite field shot to left in the seventh to push the Oregon State lead to 7-0. Easton Talt had singled in a run in the sixth, followed by Singer’s first hit of the day, a double to left center that brought Talt in.
San Diego scored three times in the seventh to pull the game within four but Singer’s third home run of the season came in the eighth to push the Beavers’ to a five-run advantage.
Krieg put a punctuation mark on the Beavers’ sweep with a two-run home run in the ninth to give OSU a 10-3 lead.
Drake Frize lasted just three innings for San Diego, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three. He dropped to 1-3 on the year.
Singer, Krieg and Paul Vazquez all had two hits as Oregon State tallied 11 as a team.
The win sent Oregon State to its 12th consecutive victory over San Diego.
