(NewsNation) — A Planned Parenthood clinic in California announced last week that it is expanding its services to include Botox treatments.

The decision comes amid concerns about the Sacramento affiliate’s long‑term financial sustainability, as well as feedback from patients.

“The reality is that our patients now are seeking aesthetic services as part of their whole well‑being,” said Dr. Laura Dalton, chief medical operating officer for Planned Parenthood Mar Monte.

“So I think, actually, aesthetics is in alignment with what Planned Parenthood stands for. Planned Parenthood stands for bodily autonomy. Planned Parenthood stands for: You decide what is best for you and what you need to feel good, and to feel like your body is what you want it to be.”

Nationwide, Planned Parenthood has faced significant federal cuts in recent months due to reduced Medicaid reimbursements, rising treatment and staffing costs, and a hostile political climate. The new offering, however, appears to be paying off for the clinic, which says it has already begun providing Botox injections at a lower price than many aesthetic providers.

“After our announcement, we had 30 providers immediately sign up asking to be trained,” Dalton added. “It’s a great way to keep our providers engaged and add to their skill set.”

Clinic officials say they plan to expand Botox services to three additional locations within the Mar Monte affiliate by June.
