MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (TNND) — A 10-year-old boy was accused of stabbing a 7-year-old three times outside a California elementary school earlier this week, authorities announced.
The Mountain View Police Department said the child was attacked during an after-school program at Bubb Elementary School on Wednesday afternoon. The incident happened in the school’s play area, police said, prompting a lockdown.

“The 10-year-old suspect fled the area before officers arrived,” police said in a news release. “During the neighborhood search, officers located residential video. A patrol officer later identified the suspect through the residential video after recognizing him from prior contacts. A Los Altos Police Department K-9 unit assisted in tracking the suspect from the school to the suspect’s residence.”
Police said officers found the child suffering from three stab wounds to the shoulder. First responders treated the child at the scene before the child to a parent.
“A kitchen knife believed to have been used in the incident was recovered at the scene,” police said.
According to authorities, the boy was detained and then transferred to clinicians with Pacific Clinics, which is the area’s juvenile mental health services provider.
Police said the suspect does not attend Bubb Elementary School and was not enrolled in the after-school program.
