Security lines at SMF may fluctuate due to TSA staffing during the federal shutdown. Travelers should arrive two hours early and check MyTSA for updates.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Travelers heading through Sacramento International Airport (SMF) should plan for potential delays at security checkpoints, as staffing levels remain affected by the federal government shutdown.

SMF officials are urging passengers to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled flights to allow extra time for screening.

Travelers can also use the MyTSA app to check security line wait times and see whether PreCheck is available.

“TSA officers continue working during the shutdown, and we appreciate the dedication it takes to keep travelers moving safely,” airport officials said.

Meanwhile, TSA employees at SMF are still working without pay due to the ongoing funding lapse affecting the Department of Homeland Security.

Union leaders said officers in the Sacramento region are set to miss their first full paycheck if the shutdown continues.

The union noted that many employees are still recovering financially from previous shutdowns. This is the third time in the past six months that TSA officers have had to work without pay.
