1. Wolf Pack ski team finishes 12th at NCAA Championships
The Nevada ski team finished 12th in the nation at last week’s NCAA Championships, its highest placement since finishing 11th in 2010. The Wolf Pack had five skiers compete in the alpine events at Utah Olympic Park with Erica Lynch, Sophia Falter, Pietro Bisello, David Morken, and Peyton Wells earning 107 points. Utah (549.5) edged Colorado (539) for the national title. The Wolf Pack’s week in Park City was highlighted by Lynch finishing seventh in slalom Friday to earn second-team All-America honors. Lynch became Nevada’s first All-American since 2010 and first women’s alpine skier to do so since Katie Lyons in 2008. Falter was Nevada’s top finisher in giant slalom, coming in 14th. On the men’s side, Morken was 16th in giant slalom and Bisello was 13th in slalom.
2. Nevada baseball opens MW play with sweep at Fresno State
The Nevada baseball team opened Mountain West play with its first three-game road sweep at Fresno State since 2021, starting league play 3-0 for the first time since 2015. The Wolf Pack (11-6, 3-0 MW) won by scores of 9-4, 15-12 and 9-4. In game one, Lee Matsuzaki had a pair of homers to power the Wolf Pack. Game two was a thriller with the Wolf Pack rallying from deficits of 6-0 and 11-5 thanks to a nine-run seventh inning that featured a grand slam from Jackson Waller. In game three, Jayce Dobie broke a 3-3 tie with a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning. Nevada starts a five-game homestand Tuesday at 3:05 p.m. against Fresno Pacific with a three-game MW series against Air Force starting Friday.
3. Wolf Pack softball takes conference-opening series vs. Boise State
Nevada softball bounced back from a MW-opening loss to Boise State (6-2) to win the final two games of the set (8-0, 9-4) to open league play with a series win. The Broncos jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game one before holding on for a victory in the first night game in Hixson Park history. The Wolf Pack (18-10, 2-1) won game two on a walk-off grand slam by Lexi O’Gorman that run-ruled Boise State. And in game three, Nevada broke a 4-4 tied in the fifth inning thanks to Katie Wetteland’s RBI triple. The Wolf Pack tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning on a base-loaded walk, based-loaded hit by pitch and sac fly. Nevada plays at Pacific on Tuesday before a three-game series at Utah State starting Friday.
