An Inland Empire man was arrested and booked in Santa Monica after being accused of firing his weapon at the Santa Monica Pier and injuring one person, police said Monday.

Officers with the Santa Monica Police Department had responded to the Santa Monica Pier at around 9 p.m. Sunday after learning about the shooting following a large fight involving multiple people.

One person who was shot in the arm was taken to a hospital. Another person, who suffered a graze wound, turned out to be the suspected shooter, the Santa Monica Police Department aid.

The suspect was identified as Jaysawn Williams, 18, of Rialto. After receiving medical treatment, Williams was taken to the Santa Monica Jail and booked on charges of assault with a firearm and grossly negligent discharge of a firearm, police said.

Santa Monica police said because its officers regularly patrol the Santa Monica Pier, they were able to quickly respond to the shooting.

Since the shooting, the Santa Monica Pier has reopened and resumed normal operations.
