Taqueria Yarelis — maker of the viral 3-foot Anaconda burrito — is opening its third restaurant in Fresno.
The Mexican restaurant plans to open its northernmost spot yet at the northwest corner of Blackstone and Nees avenues in April. It’s taking over the space left by Brothers Ramen & Japanese Eatery when it closed, in the same shopping center as Rubber Soul Bicycles and diagonally across the intersection from River Park, .
“I think it’s a very perfect place for a third location,” said Edwin Espinoza, an owner, cook and a head of social media for the restaurant his family runs.
Taqueria Yarelis has a menu full of tacos, burritos, asada fries, sopes and tortas. There’s also what it calls antojitos — its mangoanadas, fruit cups and more.

The Anaconda burrito is its claim to fame.
It’s a behemoth that can feed up to eight people. It went viral in 2016, racking up 16 million views on Facebook. People walked away from the restaurant cradling it like a newborn baby — and it weighed as much as one.
There are two versions of it — the Anaconda for $55. 99 and the Anaconda Supreme for $59.99. Both come with your choice of meats, along with rice, beans and salsa. The Supreme version comes with guacamole, cheese and sour cream.
The boost in sales from the viral burrito helped the original Taqueria Yarelis grow.
The business started as a street vendor before opening the location at 429 Fresno St., near Belmont Avenue, in 2015. It has walk-up window and outdoor seating.
It’s named after Edwin’s little sister, Yarelis, who was a toddler at the time. She’s in her 20s now.
After the Anaconda went viral, the restaurant expanded to the southwest corner of Willow and Herndon avenues.
Now it’s expanding again.
“This north side of Fresno is just going to be perfect,” Espinoza said.
It will have the same menu as the others. Though it’s a taqueria, it sells a lot of burritos — the regular sized-ones, he said.
The new location will add breakfast burritos and quesabirria to the menu.
Regardless of what the food is, Espinoza said the family just loves to feed people.
“It’s really what we love to do,” he said. “We love to make tacos. We love to make people happy with our food.”
