Three arrests have been made in a Santana Row attack being investigated as a possible hate crime, police announced Monday.
Video of the March 8 attack shows three men beating two people outside the Augustine Restaurant.
The three suspects self-surrendered on Monday to police.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office identified the suspects as:
Henry Brunell Chamaki, 32, of Morgan Hill
Roma Akoyans, 20, of San Jose
Ramon Akoyans, 18, of San Jose
A brutal attack outside a restaurant on Santana Row is being investigated as a possible hate crime, police said. Scott Budman reports.
Prosecutors have filed felony and misdemeanor charges against the three men for assault.
“We won’t tolerate pummeling a victim on the ground in front of a restaurant or anywhere, and we will hold the perpetrators fully accountable,” District Attorney Jeff Rosen said in a statement. “Our public spaces have to be safe for all to enjoy without fear.”
The victims, who asked not to be identified, said they believe they were attacked because they were speaking in Hebrew. Police said last week they were investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
Jewish Silicon Valley last week denounced the attack. The CEO of the group said he would meet with city officials to talk about how to prevent this type of incident from happening again.
“We recognize the community’s concern about this incident and appreciate the patience shown as investigators worked methodically to ensure the case was handled thoroughly and correctly,” police said in a statement. “Those responsible for this violent crime will be held accountable.”
The defendants will be arraigned on May 12, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. in Department 23 in the Hall of Justice in San Jose.
The DA’s Office said the charges do not reflect allegations of a hate crime. Police and the DA’s Office said case remains an active investigation.
As part of the ongoing investigation into the assault that occurred at Santana Row, arrest warrants were obtained for three suspects believed to be responsible for the attack. All three individuals surrendered to law enforcement today without incident.
