BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Recent proposed legislation is aiming at changing the way Americans vote.

The SAVE Act, or Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, would require voters to show proof of U.S. Citizenship when voting in federal elections.

Supporters of the legislation say it would ensure that only U.S. citizens vote in elections, while critics warn it could make it harder for eligible Americans to participate in elections.

The proposal is already sparking debate over voter I.D. laws, birth certificates and how states handle elections.

Ally Triolo, Election Integrity Communications Director for the Republican National Convention, joined ARC Bakersfield to share more details.
