HANFORD
A woman was killed and eight people injured in a fatal crash Saturday night outside of Hanford in rural Kings County, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash was reported at 8:23 p.m. Saturday, March 14, in the area of Dover Avenue west of State Route 43, where CHP officers and emergency personnel responded to the scene.
CHP said a woman driving a 2020 Polaris Ranger was traveling east on Dover Avenue west of State Route 43 with five passengers when a woman driving a 2019 Toyota Camry with two passengers approached the rear of the Polaris Ranger, an off-road vehicle.
According to the CHP, for an unknown reason the driver of the Polaris began to turn left as the Toyota was passing. The left side of the Polaris and the front right of the Toyota Camry collided. The driver of the Polaris, sustained fatal injuries, and two of its occupants were ejected.
The five adult passengers in the Polaris sustained minor to moderate injuries. One of the passengers was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, and one was taken to Adventist Medical Center in Hanford for treatment, CHP said.
The driver and two passengers of the Toyota Camry sustained minor-to-moderate injuries and were treated by emergency personnel on scene, CHP said.
The identity or age of the woman killed, and the people who were injured, was not released as of Monday.
According to the CHP, alcohol and/or drugs are suspected to be a factor in the crash.
