HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) — President Donald Trump said Sunday that the Supreme Court has “RANSACKED” the U.S. through its ruling on his tariffs.

He wrote in a social media post that the court has allowed other countries and companies to seek trillions of dollars in refunds following its invalidation of the import taxes.

“Our Country was unnecessarily RANSACKED by the United States Supreme Court, which has become little more than a weaponized and unjust Political Organization,” Trump said on Truth Social. “The sad thing is, they will only get worse!”

The National News Desk requested comment form the court but hasn’t received a response. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the opinion of the majority, though, which included five other judges, that Trump exceeded his authority by using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to set tariffs. The 1977 law allows presidents to regulate international commerce during a national emergency.

The Constitution permits Congress alone to impose taxes, an authorization Roberts cited in his opinion.

“The Framers recognized the unique importance of this taxing power – a power which ‘very clear[ly]’ includes the power to impose tariffs. And they gave Congress ‘alone … access to the pockets of the people,’” Roberts said. “The Framers did not vest any part of the taxing power in the Executive Branch.”
