BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The California Highway Patrol is urging drivers to celebrate responsibly this St. Patrick’s Day.

Officers want the community to make sure they have a plan for getting home safely when heading out to parties, restaurants or bars.

California Highway Patrol Officer Jorge Toro joined ARC Bakersfield to share what drivers should know before the get behind the wheel.

Officer Toro says you should never drive if you have been drinking always designate a sober driver or call for a ride.

He also notes passengers should not get into a car with a driver that has been drinking.

CHP urge everyone to call 911 if they suspect that someone is driving under the influence.
