Sacramento State football begins spring practice under new leadership
THE HOMESTAND DOES CONTINUE HERE AT THE GOLDEN ONE CENTER. OKAY, MICHELLE. THANK YOU. WELL, SPRING IS HERE OBVIOUSLY FOR SACRAMENTO STATE FOOTBALL AS THEY HELD THEIR VERY FIRST SPRING PRACTICE TODAY. AND THIS OF COURSE THE FIRST UNDER NEW HEAD COACH ALONZO CARTER. AS THE HORNETS GEAR UP FOR THEIR FIRST SEASON IN THE FBS AND IN THE MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE, THEY HAVE A MIX OF 54 RETURNING PLAYERS AND 44 FRESH FACES. AND AS IN YEARS PAST, THE EXPECTATIONS ARE HIGH AS THEY LOOK TO COMPETE. FIRST DAY JITTERS ARE ALWAYS THERE, YOU KNOW, GETTING TIMING WITH LIVE REPS AND YOU KNOW, IT’S A LOT DIFFERENT ROUTES ON THERE. YOU KNOW EVERYONE’S RUNNING A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY. BUT I WILL SAY EVERYONE WAS FLYING AROUND. WE GOT A LOT OF GREAT AND LIKE YOU SAID, WE RETURN A LOT OF GUYS, BUT ALSO SOME GUYS CAME BACK LIKE CARSON COUGHLIN AND I MEAN, THEY’RE A PART OF THIS FABRIC WITH COACH THOMPSON AND BRINGING BACK THAT TOUGHNESS AND GRIT HAS REALLY SHOWN OUT THROUGH ALL THE WORKOUTS. WE’RE GOING TO TRY TO GO OUT HERE AND WIN EVERY FOOTBALL GAME. THE REALITY OF IT IS WHAT THE WINS AND LOSSES WON’T DICTATE. A SUCCESSFUL SEASON. WE JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO SHOW THE IMPROVEMENT AND WHO WE ARE, AND WE WANT TO WIN EVERY GAME. WE’RE HERE TO WIN THE MAC CHAMPIONSHIP WOULD BE A LIE TO YOU IF THAT WASN’T A GOAL, BUT WE’RE JUST GOING TO FOCUS ON THE PROCESS. Sacramento State football held its first spring practice on Tuesday under new head coach Alonzo Carter, as the Hornets gear up for their inaugural season in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and the Mid-American Conference (MAC).The team features a mix of 54 returning players and 44 newcomers, and as in previous years, expectations are high as they aim to compete in the MAC. The Hornets will showcase their skills in the “Green Gold” spring game on April 25.Sacramento State’s season starts on Sept. 5 with a game against Mississippi Valley State.Hear from carter and some of the players in the video above. Sacramento State football held its first spring practice on Tuesday under new head coach Alonzo Carter, as the Hornets gear up for their inaugural season in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and the Mid-American Conference (MAC).
