SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Ranked No. 18 nationally as a team, San Diego swept West Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week awards this week. Lambert Ruland garnered two awards, winning Singles Player of the Week and part of Doubles Team of the Week with Adrien Berrut. For the second straight week, Manvydas Balciunas won Freshman of the Week for the Toreros.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK – LAMBERT RULAND, JR. – SAN DIEGO
After going 2-0 at No. 1 doubles, Lambert Ruland clinched both of USD’s ranked wins. In the 6-1 win over No. 54 Memphis last Thursday, he earned a straight set 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) win. In the 4-1 win over No. 29 Princeton last Saturday, he was victorious, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. This is the first time this season that Ruland has won Singles Player of the Week.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK – LAMBERT RULAND, JR., ADRIEN BERRUT, SO., SAN DIEGO
Lamber Ruland and Adrien Berrut went 2-0 on the No. 1 court last week, including a top-10 win. In USD’s 6-1 win over No. 54 Memphis last Tuesday, the pair picked up a 6-3 win. In the 4-1 win over No. 29 Princeton last Saturday, they were victorious again, this time over the No. 7-ranked tandem in the country, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point. This is the pair’s first conference doubles team of the week award this season.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – MANVYDAS BALCIUNAS, FR. – SAN DIEGO
Manvydas Balciunas went 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles last week. In USD’s 6-1 win over No. 54 Memphis last Tuesday, he posted a three-set victory on the third court, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. In last Sautrday’s 4-1 win over No. 29 Princeton, he won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, on the second court, and played a part in the clinching of the doubles point, teaming up with fellow dutchman Stian Klassen for a 6-1 win. This is the third time this season Balciunas has won conference freshman of the week.
