BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield City School District said they are working closely with schools to postpone any planned Cesar Chavez-related celebrations.
It comes as there are sexual abuse allegations against Chavez, including from Dolores Huerta.
Cesar Chavez Day is on March 31.
In a statement, an official with the Bakersfield City School District said:
We are aware of the recent allegations regarding Cesar Chavez and are actively reviewing the matter internally. As we do so, our focus remains on ensuring that all of our schools reflect the values of our district and continue to be safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments for every student. We are working closely with our schools to postpone any planned Cesar Chavez-related celebrations at this time. We will thoughtfully consider any next steps with our students, staff, and community in mind.
