ALBANY, CA — A quick response from the California Highway Patrol led to the recovery of an Amazon truck that was stolen from San Francisco on Sunday, authorities said.
An Amazon driver was making their deliveries in San Francisco when someone stole their truck, according to CHP Oakland.
It’s unclear what the suspect’s intentions were with the stolen truck. Photos shared by the CHP Oakland show the truck was still filled with several packages scheduled for delivery.
Through the truck’s tracking system, authorities were able to see that the vehicle was crossing the Bay Bridge toward Oakland. Shortly after, they located the Amazon truck at a McDonald’s in Albany, CHP said.
There, the suspect tried convincing officers he was an Amazon employee. But Amazon confirmed the suspect, who didn’t have a uniform or shoes on, was not an employee, authorities said.
The suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of motor vehicle theft, grand theft of packages and possession of stolen property, authorities said. His identity was not publicly released.
“Reminder: If it doesn’t look right, it probably isn’t,” police said. “And if you’re going to pretend to be a delivery driver… at least wear shoes.”
