BUT WE ARE DEFINITELY ON THE LOWER END WHEN IT COMES TO MINIMUM AGE. The state’s Elderly Parole program can be traced back to a 2014 court order, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). It aimed to address prison overcrowding.It meant that an inmate 60 years or older who served at least 25 years of their sentence could be eligible for parole, except for anyone sentenced to death or life without the possibility of parole. However, in 2021, the state Legislature took that a step further, lowering the minimum age to 50 and the minimum sentence served to 20 years.
