L.A. is investing heavily in transportation projects that not only increase efficiency but also promote more sustainable travel. With new rail lines and strategically placed stations, these initiatives promise to significantly boost ridership, improve connectivity, and reduce the city’s carbon footprint.
The Sepulveda Transit Corridor
This brand-new and highly ambitious project, is a major heavy-rail designed to connect the San Fernando Valley with the Westside and eventually LAX. Currently undergoing environmental review, it aims to relieve congestion along one of the city’s busiest corridors, the 405 freeway.

In order to plan the Metro expansion project, different options have been analyzed, with alternatives 4 and 5 recently backed by Culver City officials. These alternatives include eight strategically located stations designed for seamless connections with Metro’s D, E, and G Lines, as well as Amtrak and Metrolink. Trains are expected to reach speeds up to 70 mph and run as frequently as every 90 seconds to 2.5 minutes during peak hours.

Alternative 4 features four underground stations on the Westside and four above-ground in the Valley, while Alternative 5 is primarily underground on the Westside, offering an even more compact footprint and further reducing construction impact. In both cases, the stops will be:
Van Nuys/Metrolink – 2.8 min Sherman Way/Sepulveda – 1.8 min Sepulveda/G Line – 2.3 min Sepulveda/Ventura – 6.5 min UCLA Station – 1.3 min Wilshire/Westwood – 1.3 min Santa Monica – 1.4 min Sepulveda/E Line – 1.4 min
