SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A round of “a-paws” for the golden retriever who was recently ranked San Francisco’s No. 1 dog, according to a recent report from a nonprofit.

The golden retriever outranks the French bulldog, which has held the No. 1 spot in San Francisco since 2015, according to the American Kennel Club, a non-profit organization and the largest purebred dog registry.

“Golden Retrievers have held on tightly to the number two spot in San Francisco for quite a few years,” Gina M. DiNardo, AKC President and CEO, said in a statement. “It’s no surprise
that the extremely friendly breed finally reached number one. Goldens are very intelligent and make wonderful companions for active people.”

The French bulldog retained the natural spot nationwide for the fourth year in a row and was No. 2 in San Francisco.
