A woman out walking in Mira Mesa on Thursday was horribly injured by a trash truck that went up on the sidewalk.
It’s not clear why the 34-year-old man behind the wheel of the truck left the driveway of a shopping plaza in the 10600 block of Camino Ruiz. When he did and went up on the sidewalk, the vehicle struck the 66-year-old victim, knocking her to the ground and driving over her torso.
The woman was rushed to the hospital, according to San Diego police, who said she was treated for a lacerated liver, fractured vertebrae, eight broken ribs and “an avulsion to her right triceps,” which is when the muscle is separated from the bone.
Police said that neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be a cause in the incident.
