PEORIA, Ariz. — The Padres beat the White Sox 13-6 on Thursday night at Peoria Stadium.
Batter’s box: Gavin Sheets homered for the second straight game and also singled twice. After beginning the spring 1-for-8, Sheets is batting .310 (9-for-29) with three home runs over his past 10 games. … Fernando Tatis Jr. hit an RBI double and walked twice in his first game back from the World Baseball Classic. … Manny Machado, also playing in his first game since returning from the WBC, went 0-for-3. … Jake Cronenworth was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks and is 8-for-19 (.421) with five walks in seven games in the lead-off spot this spring. … Xander Bogaerts was 2-for-3 and is batting .318 (7-for-22) this spring. … Ty France hit a three-run homer as part of the Padres ‘ seven-run eighth inning. France, competing for a roster spot as a non-roster invitee, is batting .341 (14-for-41).
Balls and strikes: Michael King allowed his seventh, eighth and ninth home runs of the spring and a total of six runs on nine hits in five innings. King finished with a 10.19 ERA in his five Cactus League starts (17⅔ innings). … With help from Bradgley Rodriguez stranding the runner he inherited, left-hander Kyle Hart still has yet to allow an earned run this spring. Hart allowed two hits in 1⅓ innings and has allowed just one unearned run in seven Cactus League appearances (13⅓ innings). … Rodriguez struck out two and walked two but left the bases loaded in the seventh inning. He has allowed one run in 8⅔ innings this spring. … Wandy Peralta, who pitched just two innings for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, worked a scoreless inning. … Jeremiah Estrada pitched a scoreless ninth inning and has not allowed a run in 8⅔ innings this spring.
Extra bases: Catcher Freddy Fermin entered the game having been successful on 12 of his 14 ABS challenges. He was 0-for-2 Thursday night. … Cronenworth, Fermin, Sheets and center fielder Jackson Merrill played nine innings.
