KEEP AN EYE ON

No team has won three World Series in a row since the Yankees beat the Padres (1998), Braves (1999) and Mets (2000) in three straight years, but that’s precisely what the Dodgers are loading up for after winning a second straight title last year. Their .574 winning percentage was their worst since 2018 (.564) so it only made sense to add OF Kyle Tucker to a four-year, $240 million deal this offseason. That makes him worth more as far as annual average value that RHP/DH Shohei Ohtani ($46.1 million due to the deferrals in his $700 million deal)
LHP Blake Snell (2.35 ERA) made just 11 starts in the regular season in his first injury-plagued year in Los Angeles and he’s being slow played this spring, making him a long shot to be ready for opening day. That’s OK, because even with LHP Clayton Kershaw retiring, the Dodgers have plenty of starting pitchers to lean on, especially with Ohtani a year further away from Tommy John surgery and ready to take on a bigger share of the workload.
The Dodgers’ nucleus is getting older, which likely played a factor to going over the top to bring in the 29-year-old Tucker. 1B Freddie Freeman is 36, 3B Max Muncy is 35, SS Mookie Betts and OF Teoscar Hernandez are 33 and even Ohtani will turn 32 this year.
