The Oakland Coliseum will once again host Major League Cricket matches this summer, but with higher stakes.

The Coliseum will be the venue for the league’s playoff matches on July 15 and championship match on July 18.

It will also host regular-season matches in June.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be bringing world-class cricket back to the Bay,” David White, CEO of the league’s Bay Area team, the San Francisco Unicorns, said in a news release Friday. “Hosting the postseason and the Championship game in Oakland is a huge moment for our fans, and for the continued growth of cricket in the Bay Area.

“We’re ready to battle for our first Championship on home soil under new head coach, Cameron White, with a roster packed full of elite cricketing talent.”

Nine Major League Cricket matches were played at the Coliseum last June.

The Unicorns will play three regular-season matches at the former home of the A’s and Raiders this summer, June 24 against the Texas Super Kings, June 26 against the Seattle Orcas and June 28 against the Washington Freedom.

The Bay Area team will open its season in Grand Prairie, Texas, on June 19 against the Los Angeles Knight Riders and June 20 against Texas.

The Unicorns will return to Texas later in the summer for matches against MI New York on July 8, Los Angeles on July 10 and Seattle on July 11.

A new venue in Pomona will host Unicorns’ matches against Washington on July 4 and New York on July 5.

Major League Cricket is entering its fourth season.
