FRESNO, Calif. — New Mexico had a shot, and it was right there with Fresno State, but the Bulldogs won a second-set tiebreaker to clinch the match in a toss-up, with the Bulldogs winning 4-1. The win pushed Fresno State to 8-7, and 1-2 in the Mountain West, while UNM fell to 10-6 overall and also 1-2 in the Mountain West.

UNM travels to San Jose State for a Sunday, 1 p.m. Mountain Time match.

UNM lost the doubles point as only Vivica and Vianca Corley could muster a win, taking No. 3 doubles 6-3. In singles, everything was close, and Maria Matsoukatidi’s second straight win, this a 6-4, 6-2 win over Klara Vukicevic, made it 2-1 for Fresno State.

After the Bulldogs made it 3-1, UNM had an even match at No. 3 singles as Ana Veroux was in a third-set tie at 3-3, and Lea Malazdra was serving to force a third set. Kathy Tsai was trying to force a third set, but she ultimately lost her second-set tiebreaker to Eliza Dunbar, giving Fresno State the 4-1 win.
