BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — An extensive investigation has led to the arrest of Weldon woman, months after a road rage crash left a six-year-old girl dead.
On December 31, 2025, CHP Mojave officers were called out to a 911 call regarding a road rage incident on State Route 14 in the Cantil area.
The call was later upgraded to a rollover crash. When officers arrived, they found a six-year-old girl had died from her injuries. The victim was later identified by the Coroner’s Office as Zyon Kaween Romero, of Weldon. Two other children, ages 9 and 11, were also hurt.

The CHP Inland Division Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) conducted an extensive investigation. As a result, a felony arrest warrant was issued for 41-year-old Dana Romero, of Weldon, CA.
On March 17, 2026, Romero was found and taken into custody in Mountain Mesa. Romero was booked on multiple charges, including felony vehicular manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon, reckless driving, and willful cruelty to a child.
Romero remains in custody at the Lerdo Pre-Trial Facility on a no-bail warrant. On March 19, 2026 she pleaded not guilty to the charges. Romero is set to appear for a bail review in the Mojave Branch Superior Court on March 27,2026.
The suspect and victim share the same last name. Eyewitness News has reached out to CHP Mojave to confirm their relation. We have yet to hear back.
