Blackman’s soccer team earned its first district win Friday night over Oakland, 3-0, at Ray Hughes Stadium.
Blackman is 1-1 in district and 3-3-1 overall and Oakland is 0-3 in the district and 1-6 overall.
Both teams came in looking for their first district win, and in the first half, Blackman had more of the possession and a few chances but couldn’t put any away.
Late in the half, a foul by Oakland in the box led to a penalty kick and it was converted by Mohammad Khader.
In the second half both teams tried to control possession, moving the ball around to different areas and trying to find an opening.
Oakland had a couple of nice looks, but they went wide. Lucas Donhal, the Oakland netminder, made a couple nice saves to keep the score manageable.
Blackman earned a corner kick with less than 10 minutes remaining. A couple of shots were taken, and one was blocked.
The ball came to Luis Acosta around 20 yards out and he banged it in the right corner past Donhal for a 2-0 lead.
“When you play a (Jeff) Porter coached team you know they will be disciplined and it is a rivalry,” Blackman coach Vladimir Borombozin said. “We needed to come out in the second half take care of the little things and play the way we know how to play.”
Blackman added one more goal in the 37th minute when Acosta dribbled down the middle, passed to the left wing then a shot bounced off and came to Acosta in the box and he nailed it in for the final tally.
“I’m still trying to find the right combinations and take people from defense and see how things work,” Porter said. “Hopefully, by the end of the season we will be playing better and be more competitive.”
