The Cleveland Guardians and San Francisco Giants will start two of their best in Scottsdale, AZ, on Saturday.
Both the Cleveland Guardians and San Francisco Giants are looking to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon in Scottsdale, AZ. Both teams lost on Friday, ending their three-game winning streaks. But Cleveland and San Francisco have started off Cactus League play very well. That especially includes the home team, the Giants, who are 18-9-1 overall, and 9-4-1 at home. That is compared to Cleveland, which is at .500 with a 13-13-1 record this spring. San Francisco is coming off a close 6-5 loss on Friday to the Texas Rangers on the road in disappointing fashion. The Giants looked like they had an easy win in the bag, bringing a 5-0 lead into the eighth inning. The Rangers completely turned it around in the bottom of the inning to shock San Francisco, by scoring six runs, highlighted by a grand slam by Texas’ Jake Burger. San Francisco’s first four runs came via the homer as well from Will Brennan, Jesus Rodriguez, and Daniel Susac. Not all was lost on Friday, as San Francisco beat the Kansas City Royals at home in the other split-squad game, 5-2. San Francisco will start former Cy Young award winner Robbie Ray. The veteran lefty went 11-8 last season with a 3.65 ERA and 186 strikeouts. Ray has started spring training off well with a 1-0 record in 14.2 innings pitched with a 1.23 ERA.

Cleveland’s last game on Friday was not even close, losing to the Seattle Mariners at home, 20-8. Things got out of hand quickly with Seattle scoring 10 runs alone in the second inning. The Mariners didn’t let up, scoring 10 more runs across the next four innings in a rout. Seattle finished the day with 26 hits and five homers. Cleveland’s offense came out to play, also, but it didn’t matter very much with Guardian’s starter Logan Allen giving up 14 hits and 12 earned runs in just 2.1 innings. Cleveland is hoping for more from one of its best tonight, starting Tanner Bibee. He went 12-11 in 2025 with a 4.24 ERA in 182.1 innings, the most in his career. Bibee is looking for a bounce-back start, as the righty is 1-2 with a 4.42 ERA in 18.1 innings pitched while giving up four homers.
