The City of Encinitas Cultural Arts Division is seeking local artists to create a unique, handmade award for the annual City of Encinitas Environmental Awards.
Amateur and professional artists aged 16 years and above who live in San Diego County are welcome to apply. Apply at: https://www.encinitasca.gov/community/artist-call-for-2026-environmental-awards
The artwork must be created using one or more of the following media: ceramic, glass, or wood. The artwork’s dimensions must be no more than 12” wide x 12” long and 3” high.
The award must be nature-themed and incorporate text that includes the name of the award and the year.
All complete applications received by the deadline will be juried by the Environmental Award Ad Hoc of Arts Commissioners, and by members of the Environmental Commission. The selected artist will be notified by early October.
Complete applications must be submitted through the online form no later than 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Late and/or incomplete applications may not be considered.
The selected artist will be required to:
•Complete a waiver of indemnity and liability releasing the city of any liability from artwork damage, loss, or theft.
•Be responsible for the delivery of the artwork to the City of Encinitas with the assistance of the Cultural Arts Division staff.
•Participate in the corresponding Environmental Awards Ceremony. In addition, the selected artist may also choose to offer an artist talk, demonstration, workshop, or similar engagement activity (subject to review and approval by city staff).
The selected artist will be paid $1,000 (compensation is subject to change and determined by the City of Encinitas) to create four works of art for the Environmental Awards. The awards are as follows:
•Excellence in Environmental Stewardship – For-profit Business
•Excellence in Environmental Stewardship – Non-profit Organization
•Environmental Hero – Adult
•Environmental Hero – Youth
