Long Beach Poly extended their winning streak to four on Friday, bumping them up to 8-4. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Lakewood Lancers. The Jackrabbits have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Lancers, too.
Long Beach Poly got a great performance from Malakai Pruitt as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Pruitt has been consistent recently: he hasn’t given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Tate Hammond was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Neil Morris, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run.
As for Lakewood, they dropped their record down to 3-10 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The loss was just more heartbreak for they who fell 6-4 when the teams previously met back in April of 2025.
On Lakewood’s side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Rueda, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Nick Gallegos also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Coming up, Long Beach Poly will face off against St. Anthony at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Saints’ pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Jackrabbits’ hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lakewood, they will square off against Compton at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
