The family of a 6-year-old child are demanding answers after she was allegedly assaulted by her teacher at a Los Angeles charter school.

“My name is Malik Brinston, and I am the father of a 6-year-old first-grade student, Amina, who was physically assaulted by a teacher’s aide at ISANA Nascent Charter Elementary School in Los Angeles, California,” said Brinston in a statement released by Project Islamic Hope.

“In December 2025, during a disagreement between my daughter and another student, a teacher’s aide, identified as Ms. Friarson, violently backhanded my child across the face.”

According to Brinston, Amina was hit so hard it left a visible mark on her face due to the teacher wearing a ring at the time.

“This shocking act of violence was witnessed by my daughter’s classroom teacher, Mrs. Cunningham, who immediately reported the assault to the school principal, the superintendent, and the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS),” said Brinston.

“Despite the seriousness of this incident, neither I nor Amina’s mother were notified. DCFS did visit the school in December and spoke with my daughter, but we were misled and told the visit was unrelated to any incident involving her. Meanwhile, the aide who assaulted my child was allowed to remain on campus and continue working.”

According to Brinston, the school’s principal dismissed the attack and attributed the allegation to a “disgruntled former employee”.

Brinston is demanding a full investigation into the matter.

“This is outrageous! A 6-year-old child was slapped in the face by a school employee, and instead of protecting that child, the school covered it up and fired the whistleblower,” said Najee Ali, director of Project Islamic Hope. “That’s not just negligence—that’s a betrayal of every parent who trusts this school with their children.”

The family has scheduled a press conference for Monday, Mar. 23 at 12:30 p.m.
