History

INDIANA, Pa. — Indiana (Pa.) was swept in a PSAC softball doubleheader Saturday, dropping a 5-4 decision in the opener before falling 6-1 in Game 2 against California (Pa.).

The Crimson Hawks showed fight in Game 1, erasing a three-run deficit with a three-run third inning. Madison Pikula drove in a run with a single, while Ruby Singleton added an RBI double as IUP evened the score at 3-3.

California (Pa.) responded with two runs in the fourth to regain control, and IUP was unable to complete the comeback despite bringing the tying run to the plate late. Pikula and Singleton each finished with RBIs, with Singleton adding a double to pace the offense.

In Game 2, IUP struggled to generate consistent offense as California (Pa.) built an early multi-run lead. The Crimson Hawks broke through in the fifth inning when Pikula delivered an RBI single to score Maddie Griffin, cutting the deficit to 5-1.

That would be the only run of the game for IUP, as California (Pa.) added an insurance run and held the Crimson Hawks in check the rest of the way.

Pikula led IUP across the doubleheader with multiple RBIs, while Singleton contributed extra-base power in the opener. Griffin accounted for IUP’s lone run in Game 2.

Despite a strong middle-inning rally in the first game, IUP was unable to sustain offensive momentum, managing just one run in the final nine innings of the twin bill.
