History

SACRAMENTO — San Diego softball (12-16, 0-0 WCC) fell 3-1 to Sacramento State (20-10, 0-0 Big Sky) in the second game of the doubleheader at Shea Stadium, dropping both games of Saturday’s twin bill.

Kaitlyn Bartlow was outstanding, going the distance and holding a potent Sacramento State lineup to just three runs on five hits across six innings in a complete-game effort.

The Toreros’ lone run came in the fourth, when Michelle Delgado drew a walk, Mallory Axline singled her into scoring position, and Taylor Johnson was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Janae Combs plated Delgado with a sacrifice fly to tie it at one.

Sacramento State answered in the fifth with a solo home run to retake the lead and added an insurance run in the sixth on a triple and RBI single to put the game away. USD managed just two hits in the afternoon against the Sacramento State starter, who also went the distance.

The Toreros will be back in action tomorrow to close out the series against Sac State with the final game set for 11:00 AM at Shea Stadium.
