LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV softball team collected a 6-3 victory over San Diego State in game two on Saturday afternoon at Eller Media Stadium. The Rebels (16-15, 3-2) secured the Mountain West series over the Aztecs (17-13, 2-3).Â

Bri Williams led the Scarlet & Gray at the plate going 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored two runs. Williams nearly hit the cycle as she roped a double and a two-run homer in the second inning. Natalie Turner and Keyannah Chavez each went 1-for-1 and had a walk and each collected an RBI. Mantha Hatzenbeller was 1-for-2 at the plate including her fourth home run of the season. Reagen Everett collected the win in relief for the Rebels for her first of the season. Yanina Sherwood earned her first save of the season.

HOW IT WENT DOWN: The Rebels jumped out front in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly out to center field by Charelle Aki, 1-0. After a quick three up, three down in the top of the second, the Rebels then rallied a three-run inning to take a 4-0 lead. With one out, Mantha Hatzenbeller smacked a home run over the left field wall. Rachel Cook followed with a double to right center, putting herself in scoring position. With two outs, Bri Williams sent one deep over the center field wall bringing in Cook. In the top of the third, SDSU got on the board on a single to center, 4-1. UNLV got the run back in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to a left field single by Turner, 5-1. In the top of the fifth, the Aztecs scored another run on a sacrifice fly to left to get within three, 5-2. However, the Rebels answered in the bottom half of the fifth on a Keyannah Chavez solo blast to right, 6-2. The sixth was scoreless by both sides, until the top of the seventh, when the Aztecs tried to get a two-out rally going and scored on a double, 6-3. Lyla Gonzalez made a huge diving catch near the middle to secure the third out for the Rebels and collect the win.

OTHER NOTES:
Turner collected her 11th stolen base of the season. Turner has now reached base in six straight games.
Cook was 1-for-3 on the day which included a double and crossed the plate once for UNLV.
Williams has now reached base in 19 consecutive games.
Diamond Sefe has extended her on-base streak to nine games.
Charelle Aki is now on a six-game reached base streak.
